Flashback: Volkswagen at the 2008 24h Race of Nürburgring.

Last May, Volkswagen entered three factory-tuned Scirocco GT24 racecars at the legendary 24h Race of the Nürburgring, each of them featuring a 2.0 liter turbo engine with 325 hp. This race represented the first motorsport incursion of the new Scirocco, months before its official market introduction. The Scirocco GT24 racecars demonstrated exceptional performance taking 1st, 2nd and 5th places in their category, racecars with 2.0 liter turbo engines. Overall, in a world of 219 cars, the Scirocco GT24 racecars finished in the 11th, 15th and 32nd positions . The total times and laps were as follow:

This perfect one-two premiere for the Scirocco GT24 represents a great achievement for the Volkswagen Motorsport Team since the racecars were developed in only 75 days prior to the race!

The Scirocco GT24 was presented at the GTI Wörthersee 2008, a Volkswagen Golf GTI yearly enthusiast meeting in Austria. At this time the car represented only Volkswagen's representation in the race event mentioned earlier but some say that the car may preview a Scirocco R version, which is rumourdly due late next year. No official confirmation has come from Volkswagen yet. Until then, I leave you with some photos of the Scirocco GT24 racecars and a preview of how a Scirocco R might look like.
